Uniqueness Is Better Than The Best
Welcome. I am Ahn Nam-sung, the President of the KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS).
Since its establishment and acceptance of the first group of students in 2012, KINGS produced its sixth group of graduates last year. As a result, the institution has grown into a small, but strong, first-class institution of higher learning with a network of approximately 200 alumni in 29 countries across the world. With this increase in the number of graduates, the public has become more aware of KINGS. Consequently, the competition rate for prospective students has risen, and the institution has grown quietly, but substantially into a first-class university at which students from around the world wish to study.
Based on practical nuclear engineering knowledge acquired through the KINGS’ systems engineering education, and through the power of the alumni network, our diligent graduates have become prominent in engineering fields around the globe thanks to their unique competitive advantages. In addition, through field intern education programs provided by related nuclear energy corporations, the institution has equipped our graduates with unique competitiveness, where the practical training received at the university can be applied directly to field engineering.
With the new establishment of the Department of Energy Policy and Engineering this year, it has become possible for KINGS, which hitherto has offered only Department of NPP Engineering, to provide educational services that combine engineering and the social sciences in response to the demands of the digital economy. In addition, the new summer session programs have made it possible to provide basic digital education on various subjects, including AI, big data, and 3D printing. The purpose of such changes at KINGS lies in enabling our graduates to possess unparalleled competitiveness in their careers as preparation for the digital economy of the future. In particular, with an emphasis on fields related to financing and new energy industries as well as the existing nuclear energy industry in the KINGS’ curricula, we have prepared a knowledge basis capable of providing overall support to entrepreneurship and overseas businesses in the energy industry.
With the 4th Industrial Revolution, all industries in South Korean society are undergoing an unprecedented paradigm shift. Likewise, the energy industry and energy education will experience digital disruption. KINGS will unceasingly implement changes in order to develop and provide educational services that enable our graduates to adapt to the energy industry in the digital economy, thereby developing into a small but strong, first-class university.
